The American Society
of Women Accountants was founded in 1938 in
Indianapolis,
IN by Ida S. Broo, the first
woman CPA in the state of Indiana. ASWA now has over
100 chapters throughout the United States representing
over 6,000 members. Membership has been open to men,
since 1974.
The Society’s mission
is to enable women in all fields of accounting to
achieve their personal, professional and economic
potential, and to contribute to the future development
of the profession.
ASWA also seeks to
inform the public about the contributions of women to
the accounting profession and the business community
through activities such as the Public Relations dinner.
We provide educations seminars as well as technical
sessions at our monthly meetings. We also work with
local colleges through our scholarship programs.
Members of ASWA work at all
levels of the accounting profession; from individual
practitioners to entry and top-level positions in
industry and government, and from juniors to partners in
major accounting firms.
ASWA members can be found
throughout the economy from academia and government to
the private and public sectors. Members are highly
educated, well-informed professionals and take part in a
wide spectrum of activities including art, athletics,
law, family, life, music, travel and considerable
volunteerism.
We hope that you decide to
join us!
